Creating your own family website

Creating your own family website is actually pretty easy. Learning the basics of html takes about a day and you could be off writing your own site. You don't even need to spend any money to get started. You can use notepad.exe to start writing pages, save them to your hard drive, and see how the site will look.

When you're ready, you can register with godaddy.com where you can get your domain name, rent storage space, and get help publishing your pages. With just a little skill, you can maintain your own site for under $50 a year.

One easy way to get started is just to copy what somebody else has done. Simply view the source for a page, and you'll see how it's done. Right click on this page and say, "view source" (actual verbage may vary depending on your browser). In fact, you can download this entire site to your hard drive, and then just modify those pages to change the words and pictures to be your words and your pictures instead of my words and my pictures!!

The hardest part about keeping up a website isn't the design... it's keeping up with the content to keep the pages interesting so folks keep coming back. If you know what you want to say, and show, and you like the format of my site, I will gladly point you in the right direction.

Otherwise, if you can't do it, I'm sure there's plenty of companies out there who will happily get you started for not much money. :)

Good Luck!!
